What Verbatae is for
You have a pile of documents and a question about what is in them.
Verbatae reads the whole pile and lets you ask it three kinds of question. Every answer is quoted from your own files, with the file it came from.
You do the reading and the reasoning. Verbatae finds, quotes and cites.
What you do
- Choose a folder. Pick the folder of documents you want to look through.
- Let it read. This happens once. Your originals are never changed.
- Ask. Search, build a timeline, or check what is missing.
Everything stays on this computer. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to connect an assistant.
Three questions it answers
It searches by meaning, not only words
Type a question into the Search box, in plain words. Concord finds passages that match your words, and passages that say the same thing in other words.
Search
Add filters from the lists below, or type +field~value. With no words, filters list the record by date.
The first result is tagged meaning: no word of the question you typed is in the highlighted sentence, so a plain word search would miss it. Every result names its file and quotes it exactly.
Example with invented names and files. The layout is the app’s. Scrolling, opening a result and hover tips are live here; searching is not.
What it will not do
- Draw conclusions. It shows what the documents say. You decide what it means.
- Change your files. They are read, never marked or moved.
- Send your documents anywhere.
Any result can be checked. Open it and it takes you to the original, and tells you whether the file is unchanged, changed or gone.
Try it on something you know
- Pick a folder you know well. You will recognize a right answer when you see one.
- Search for something you know is in it. See whether it comes back, and from which file.
- Then search for something you know is not. See what it says.
Your documents are never changed, so there is nothing to break. Questions, or something confusing? Help is in the menu bar, and [email protected] reaches a person.
